World Organ Donation Day
“ Only a life lived for others is a lifeworthwile”
Organ Donation Day is observed every year on 13th of
August. The aim of this day is to motivate normal human beings to pledge to
donate organs after death, and to spread awareness about the importance of
organ donation. In context of that a seminar was organized by chemistry department to sensitize
students for Organ donation on 5th August,2013 under the stewardship
of Dr. Anju Gupta (Head of the Department). Dr. Anju Gupta , Mrs. Nishu
Jindal expressed their views on the
topic. Various speakers were Sakshi, Palak, Palvinder, Geetanjali, Vandana. After
that, Dr. Anju Gupta concluded the seminar by explaining the students the
importance of the organ donation and how transplant can save or transform the
life of a person.Such seminars provide a great opportunity in everyone’s life to come ahead,
pledge to donate precious organs and change someone’s life
The following Salient points were discussed during
the lecture:
v To enlighten the students about the need of organ
donation.
v To remove the hesitations of the people about
donating organs.
v To aware the students that which organs can be
donated
Visit to Mother Teresa Home
The poor require something more than money. They
want sympathy and moral help, which no money can buy and most importantly they
want to be treated as human brothers. In the fast
deteriorating environment of selfish motives in this materialistic oriented
life style, we want our students to be socially responsible global citizens.
Keeping this in mind, the students and the staff
members of chemistry department visited mother teresa home on 12th
of September 2015. They took fruits, milk and other eatables for the kids and
T.B patients there who were inhabitants of the mother teresa home and spent
time with them.

ACTIVITY 3
A Visit to Blind Home
A Visit to Blind Home
To
promote ‘Human values and Ethics’ among young generation a visit to blind home
was organized by the Department of Chemistry on the occasion of RakshaBandhan.
Students tied a knot of brotherhood and love to blind students and distributed
sweets. The event progressed with celebration of RakshaBandhan by singing songs
and bhajans which was followed by discussions on various aspects of lives of
blind people. Mrs.Poonam Mehta, Assistant Professor in Chemistry, DSCW,
delivered a lecture on importance of moral values and social ethics as an
integral part of education.

ACTIVITY 4
VISIT TO LEPER’S HOME
To
impart the human values in the students,who are the future citizens of the
society, a visit to leper’s home was organized by science department .This
activity was aimed to fulfill students with the insight of weaker and marginal
sections of our society and awaken the sense of service and compassion towards
such sections in the students. This visit helped the students to interact and
understand the problems of residents of leper’s home.
ACTIVITY 5
World Ozone Day
September
16th was designated by the United Nation general assembly as the
international day for the preservation of ozone layer. The day is mainly
intended to spread awareness of the depletion of ozone layer and search for
solution to preserve it. People from all over the world are expected to gather
on this day to join the talks and seminar.

Department of chemistry organised a state level
inter college science competition SCI ROSTRUM an event to observe World Ozone Day on 7th
Sep, 2013 under the stewardship of Dr. Mrs. Madhu Prashar (Principal, DSCW). This
state level even comprised of various competition like Quiz, Model
Presentation, Rangoli, Power Point presentation, Poster Presentation and
Cartooning. To participate in this event more than 100 students from
different prestigious colleges of Punjab reached the campus. Thus more than
about 300 students participated in this event.
ACTIVITY 7
ENERGY
CONSERVATION
Energy
conservation is an effort made to reduce the consumption of energy by using
less of an energy service. This can be achieved either by using energy more
efficiently or by reducing the amount of energy used.An activity on energy
conservation was organised for BSC.II They were guided through power point
presentation on how to conserve energy by making proper use of it .They were
told to switch off lights, fans and electrical appliances when not in use,
proper use of automobiles and fuels etc. through presentation. Mrs. Isha Behal
and Ankush Behal took over the activity.
ACTIVITY 8
COMMUNICATION SKILL DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAMME
The students of MSc. I attended a workshop on 'Role of Technology in Enhancement of Communication Skills' in the guidance of Mrs. ISHA MONGA. This workshop was very useful for students of MSC.I as it guided them about technology and communication skills an their career and further in their jobs. Students complimented this seminar and participated in it wholeheartedly.
ACTIVITY 9
SEMINAR ON TRAFFIC RULES
A
seminar on Traffic Rules and Drug Addiction was organized by local
administration . The main objective of this semiar was to spread a message in
the society Especially through women to avoid drugs and to follow Traffic Rules
in daily life. The students of Chemistry department along with Dr.Anju Gupta
attended the seminar and took an oath to follow the guidelines given by SP
Ferozepur.This seminar was very informative and ended up with useful thought of
“ Know Safety No Pain , No Safety Know Pain.
