Do & Don’t in Chemistry Lab

 

The P.G Department Chemistry organised an activity for B.Sc. I students. During this session of Chemistry Department included key points such as laboratory safety clothing and equipment, flammable and combustible solvents, SDSs (safety data sheets), how to 

handle acids and bases, and precautions that should be taken while handling hazardous 

chemicals. , It is also very important to use personal protective equipment when handling 

chemicals. It cannot eliminate dangers but serve as a barrier against contact. This safety 

dos and don'ts of handling chemicals in the laborator helps you understand best labeling 

practices, general guidance for handling chemicals, and safety precautions when handling chemicals. They  included information on different types of eye protection, gloves, shoes, 

lab coats, and other protective gear in her presentation.

Water Conservation

The  PG DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY  of DSCW organized a Workshop on water conservation on 30th September 2022. The purpose of this workshop was to create awareness among the students about the importance of water. The motive was to sensitize the masses to use water judiciously and not to waste it as water level is falling day by day.  Water conservation is the preservation of water supply and it includes both the quantity and quality of water. They were encouraged to harvest the rain water and to reduce the wastage of water  as it is necessary to conserve water. So  they took oath to use water properly  as every individual depends on water for livelihood.

Structural Analysis using Spectroscopy Techniques

This international webinar was organised by PG Department of Chemistry. The webinar was organised for graduation and post-graduation students to make them aware about various types of spectroscopic techniques and trends in the field of science after collge. The resource person for session was Dr. Arpita Singh (Intel Corporation, Hillsboro, Oregon (U.S.). She suggested various ways that how to predict the structure of unknown compounds using spectroscopic techniques and opt the career in one’s life depending on the capabilities and potential in the field of the research. She talked about how to focus on the chosen career and what are the efforts to be put in to make that dream true. The webinar was organized to help the students to inculcate their interests in the research areas and expose them to a diverse range of spectroscopic techniques to understand various fields of the research and opt the same in their future.

FOOD ADULTERATION

Workshop on Food Adulteration was organized by Department of Chemistry held on 10^th March 2023. The students from various departments and classes attended the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to study some of the common food adulterants present in different food stuffs.The teachers of the chemistry department perform various experiments to illustrate the adulteration in food stuffs. Students interacted with teachers and solved their queries. 1.    They also learned about the health issues cause by consuming the adulterated food stuffs.

Academic Research Practices

Research ethics involves the application of fundamental ethical principles to research activities which include the design and implementation of research respect towards society and others, the use of resources and research outputs, scientific misconduct and the regulation of research. This webinar was organized by PG Department of Chemistry. The webinar was organized for Graduation and Post-graduation on 13th  March, 2023. students to make them aware about various research ethics followed in academic research. The resource person for session was Dr. Hardeep Singh. He explained different skills to write a good quality research paper and introduced various software’s used to check plagiarism. Furthermore, he motivated students how to focus on the chosen career in the field of research

depending on capability and potential in the respective areas.
